Run by the same family since the 1930s, this little ‘champagne bar' is one of the eternal attractions on this ancient street. It's lined with coloured tiles, barrels and antique curios, and there are a few marble tables; nearly always full. El Xampanyet has three specialities: anchovies, fresh cider and ‘champagne' (a pretty plain cava, if truth be told, but very refreshing all the same).
