History of Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital of the city of Catalonia which is also considered as the 2nd largest city in Spain. This city is one of the major economic centers in Europe. Its population has reached 1.6 million in the year 2006.  The Catalan government is also located in Barcelona, it is called Generalitat de Catalunya.

According to two legends, the city was founded by Hercules and was rebuild by Hamilcar Barca in the third century BC. While the second legend states that it was directly founded by Hamilcar Barca and wasn't pass by Hercules.

The Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas which was derived from the Arabic word which means dry flowers is a busy street in Barcelona. Both popular to tourist and locals, it houses a number of market stalls and cafes.

The Las Rambas has five sections which are the Rambla dels Estudis and RamblaCanaletes for its bird market; Rambla de Sant Joseph for the flowers; Rambla de Santa Monica and Rambla dels Caputxins.
